Important - Austria
While driving on Austrian motorways, the 'Toll Box motorhomes and vehicles over 3 m height'/ 'Toll Box for commercial trucks over 3 m high and over 3.5 t weight' must emit signal tones from time to time, when passing checkpoints arching over the road.
(The toll box does not make a sound at 'special toll stations' such as the Brenner Pass, as the signal for this is already detected a short distance beforehand).
If the toll box does not emit any beeps or emits 4 beeps when passing a checkpoint, you must contact a GO service point within 5 hours and 100 km to:
- Pay the toll already caused until then and
- Purchase a GO-Box on site to continue your journey.
You can find all GO service points here: https://go-maut.at/en/our-go-toll-system/go-points-of-sale
Please contact our customer service afterwards to find a long-term solution.
The signal tone in other countries is irrelevant. In Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal, especially in 'free-flow systems,' the toll fee is assigned to you by maut1 solely through license plate recognition and billed as intended. Thus, it is perfectly fine and even normal if the toll box does not emit a beep.
Important - France
Please check whether your vehicle actually corresponds to French vehicle class 3 or 4. (Click here for information on French vehicle classes)
Carrying the wrong toll box category in France may result in your toll box being rejected at toll stations.
General Information
If the barriers at the toll stations in France, Spain, Portugal or Italy do not open automatically, please follow the steps below:
- Check the exact position of where you attached the Toll Box to the windscreen and the windscreen's features
For motorhomes, expecially with alcove, we recommend attaching the Toll Box approx. 15 cm above the dashboard on the windshield.
However, a dotted field in the top of the windshield usually indicates a recess of the metallic material in a windshield and marks the intended spot for Toll Boxes.
Click here for more information on attaching the Toll Box in motorhomes. - The windshield can be completely eliminated as a cause by holding the toll box out of the side window (starting 50 m in front of the barrier continuously until the toll booth).
- If your toll box still does not work, you can scan the barcode on the box at the toll station, contact the staff (using the emergency button), take a ticket, or pay on site. (Please keep your tickets and receipts). In Italy in particular, it is sufficient to inform the staff that you have a Telepass. The toll can then be assigned to your license plate number via the maut1 Tol Box.
- Please do not reverse out of the lane.
- Do not additionally register your license plate number online for free-flow systems. Your vehicle is registered here – even if the toll box is defective.
If the windshield can be eliminated as the cause, contact our customer service in a calm situation. Phone calls while driving are not recommended, and your customer number and written confirmation (e-mail) are required to resolve the issue.
Please understand that the most common cause of toll box detection problems is incorrect positioning on the windshield, and our staff will ask a few specific questions that require only a short but accurate answer from you.
