In France, the amount of the toll charge is based on the actual vehicle data (including trailer, if towing) recorded on site while passing through the toll station. The vehicle class, which is determined automatically at the toll station in France, is based on:

which are classified as follows:

  • Class 1: Vehicles with an actual weight of up to 3.5 tonnes, a height of up to 2 m, no more than 2 axles (with or without trailers of up to 2 m height)

  • Class 2:
    • Vehicles with up to 4.5 t actual weight and 2 - 3 m height and no more than 2 axles
    • Towing vehicles of class 1 with a trailer between 2 and 3 m height

  • Class 3:
    • Vehicles with 2 axles, a height exceeding 3.05 metres and an actual weight of more than 3.5 tonnes
    • Vehicles with 2 axles and an actual weight exceeding 4.5 tonnes.

  • Class 4: Vehicles with 3 or more axles
